OSCE Court of Conciliation and Arbitration to elect new president, bureau

With the mandate of the current president and bureau of the OSCE Court of Conciliation and Arbitration set to expire, the procedure to elect a new president and members of the bureau got under way on 24 July 2013.

According to the procedure, conciliators and arbitrators appointed by states parties may submit nominations for candidates until 23 August. Once the list of candidates is complete, the Court will send voting materials to each appointed member, who will have until 17 September to submit their ballots. The final results will be announced on 19 September. 

The OSCE Court of Conciliation and Arbitration is based in Geneva. It was established in 1995 by the Convention on Conciliation and Arbitration as a mechanism for the peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with international law and the OSCE commitments of the parties. Thirty-three states have now ratified the Convention.

The bureau is the Court’s permanent executive body. It consists of the president, four members (including the vice president) and four alternate members.
