A two-day seminar on delimitation and demarcation in Central Asia was organized by the OSCE in Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan on 4 and 5 July.
Some 30 senior governmental officials from national border agencies of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, as well as international experts exchanged experiences, expertise and best international delimitation and demarcation practices. The seminar was also attended by Ambassador Sergey Kapinos, Head of the OSCE Centre in Kyrgyzstan and Ambassador Markus Mueller, Head of the OSCE Office in Dushanbe.
The government representatives presented the current state of border delimitation and demarcation in the region and challenges and successes. Following the discussions, participants agreed to consider a follow-up meeting in Tajikistan.
The event was organized in conjunction with the Transnational Threats Department of the OSCE Secretariat at the request of the Kyrgyz Government, and with the support of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek and of the OSCE Office in Dushanbe.
