Portugal

Portugal participated in the early CSCE negotiations in 1973, and became one of the original signatories of the Helsinki Final Act in 1975. The country hosted the Lisbon Summit in 1996 and Chaired the Organization in 2002. Portugal is represented by a Permanent Delegation to the OSCE and to the Parliamentary Assembly.

Every year, the political leadership of the OSCE rotates among the Organization's participating States. The country taking over the OSCE Chair co-ordinates activities and provides political direction throughout that year.
