OSCE Mission sponsors study tour to Estonia for Georgian police
TBILISI, 11 October 2007 - Georgian police officials took part in a study tour to Estonia, which ended today, as part of OSCE Mission-supported efforts to help reform the Georgian Police Academy's management of human resources.
The officials learned about human resource management on their four-day visit to Tallinn, which follows two OSCE training courses on personnel issues intended to help regional personnel officers introduce improved selection procedures.
"The study tour is another result of the close co-operation between the OSCE Mission and the Georgian Interior Ministry to address the police reform agenda," said Marco Kubny, Police Adviser at the OSCE Mission to Georgia. "The whole programme, including this visit, is geared towards not only best practice theory, but also smooth implementation using up-to-date technology."
The officers visited different police departments within the Estonian Interior Ministry to discuss implementation of modern and standardized management tools, including standardized digital personnel information systems.
The Mission's ongoing police assistance activities focus on human resources and community policing. Earlier this year the Mission organized a study visit for Georgian police officers to Germany, where they learned about practical aspects of community policing and criminal prevention techniques.
