OSCE Mission supports development of community policing in Georgia

TBILISI, 24 August 2007 - The OSCE Mission and the Interior Ministry will host a conference on community policing in Batumi on 27 August.
The first of its kind in Georgia, the three-day event will bring together representatives of the Government, parliament and police, non-governmental and international organizations, ethnic minorities, and international experts. They will discuss the national concept of community policing and its practical implementation, key elements of the ongoing reform of the Georgian police service.
The event is funded by the OSCE Mission and is part of its police assistance programme aimed at developing community policing in Georgia.
Journalists are invited to attend the opening session of the conference at 14.00, on Monday, 27 August, at Hotel "Intourist Palace", Batumi.
