Media and Reality: Dimensions of Responsibility

The seminar aims to create a platform for dialogue between representatives of media community on the importance of the media for establishment of democracy, development of civil society, institutionalization of practices for good governance and conflict prevention, and the representation of the interests of communities.

The seminar participants will join moderated dialogues with elements of the Socratic method - they will jointly read and discuss fragments of works by classical and modern thinkers, experts, and authors, and will exchange ideas and experiences with the intention of gaining a deeper understanding of various aspects of the functioning of modern media.

Over the course of four days, the participants will discuss the following issues:

• the essence of freedom of speech: philosophical content, practical significance, and limits of application;
• the impact of politics on media as a challenge for professional journalism;
• the role of journalism in countering propaganda and disinformation;
• journalism and coverage of military conflicts; 
• transformation of journalism in the era of information technologies and social networks.

The seminar is designed for representatives of the media community of Ukraine: managers, journalists, owners, editors, media experts, teachers of journalism disciplines, media lawyers.

Preference will be given to candidates with leadership positions, significant professional experience (from 7 years), recognized professional achievements, and an active position within the media community. Participation in the seminar is free of charge, participants are selected on a competitive basis. They will have to ensure their own travel to the seminar venue.
