OSCE and IOM launch training manual on labour migration

A manual for trainers and migration experts produced jointly by the Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) was launched on 10 February in Vienna. The launch was attended by OSCE delegations, specialized migration agencies and institutions, and external migration experts.

Goran Svilanovic, the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities, said: “Having knowledgeable and competent trainers is essential to help generate well thought-out and more effective labour migration management programmes and policies that facilitate humane and orderly migration, which will at the same time contribute to more security and stability within the OSCE region”.

Irena Vojackova-Sollorano, the Director of the Department of Migration Management in the IOM said: “This manual is a first of its kind - a must-have resource for all government structures, civil society, private sector, and international organizations involved in labour migration management. IOM will use it widely around the world in response to the global demand for a comprehensive, interactive, practical and flexible training tool on effective labour migration management”.

The comprehensive training modules encourage trainees to think critically about labour migration and develop efficient, well-adapted response programmes and policies that fit specific requirements and objectives. They have been developed by experts in the field and improved through feedback from test training sessions with participants from across the world.

The Training Modules on Labour Migration Management – Trainer’s Manual, accompanied exercises and power-point presentations can be obtained at no cost as a CD-ROM from the OSCE or the IOM upon request.

The production of this manual is a follow up to the migration priorities of the 2009 OSCE Greek Chairmanship and was financially supported by the Permanent Mission of Greece to the OSCE.
