26 May 2011
At the meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council on 26 May 2011 in Vienna, the Chairperson, Lithuanian ambassador Renatas Norkus, expressed his concern about the reports of violent incidents during demonstrations in Tbilisi and called for restraint by all sides.
“We urge the authorities and the leaders of the demonstrations to ensure that violence does not escalate and that the right to peaceful assembly and demonstration continue to be respected. The right to demonstrate comes with a responsibility to do so peacefully, without violence and provocations. We invite the Government of Georgia and opposition to resume constructive political dialogue and to exercise calm and restraint” said Norkus.
