OSCE Chairperson condemns killing of UN workers in Afghanistan
VILNIUS, 1 April 2011 – The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Ažubalis, condemned the killing of UN workers and local residents by a mob of protestors who stormed the UN compound in the town of Mazar-e Sharif in northern Afghanistan today. He offered his condolences to the families of those killed.
“On behalf of the entire OSCE community, I utterly condemn this horrific attack which has resulted in the senseless deaths of so many people who were selflessly serving in Afghanistan to help make the country a better place. No grievance can legitimize such bloodshed, and I am shocked by this outbreak of violence,” said Ažubalis.
“I offer my condolences to the families of those killed, and my support to the UN and its special representative in Afghanistan, Staffan de Mistura, as well as to the Afghan government, at this difficult time.”
