Conference on the role of Web and satellite TV in the relationships between people in the OSCE, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern areas

The conference, financed by the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, will be organized on the fringe of the Belgian chairmanship of the OSCE in 2006.
Though not an official OSCE event, the conference aims to demonstrate the importance of these issues for the security of the OSCE area, the Mediterranean and the Middle East as well as why the OSCE is an ideal institution to tackle these issues, both internally and in collaboration with its neighbours in these regions.
The conference will focus on the problems created by the propagation of messages inciting hate and violence against people of other races, religions, cultures and civilizations in global media, such as the Web and satellite TV, and on ways to curb and sanction them. It should also address the question of how the global media could enhance a positive dialogue of civilizations around the Mediterranean and within the OSCE area.
