Van der Stoel appointed Personal Envoy of Chairman-in-Office

VIENNA, 29 June 2001 (OSCE) - The Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, Romanian Foreign Minister Mircea Geoana, has appointed Max van der Stoel as his Personal Envoy with the mandate "to facilitate a dialogue and provide advice for a speedy solution of the current crisis in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia."
Mr. Van der Stoel concluded his activities as OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities this weekend. The appointment takes effect on 1 July 2001.
