OSCE Chairman expresses condolences to Russia on death of Boris Yeltsin

MADRID, 23 April 2007 - The OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, expressed his condolences to Russia today after the death of former President Boris Yeltsin was announced in Moscow.
"Boris Yeltsin, Russia's first democratically elected president, was instrumental in accelerating Russia's transition to democratic and free-market principles," said Minister Moratinos.
"It was under his leadership that Russia truly embraced the values and commitments of the OSCE. This is an important legacy. I extend my sympathy to President Yeltsin's family and to the Russian people."
