(OSCE)OSCE Annual Report 2005 (OSCE)
VIENNA, 26 April 2006 - The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the world's largest regional security arrangement, released its Annual Report 2005 today.
The 150-page publication details the activities of the Organization and its co-operation with other international organizations.
"2005 was a pivotal year for the OSCE," OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut writes in his foreword. "We recalled the historic anniversary of the 1975 Helsinki Final Act and the 15th anniversary of the Charter of Paris for a New Europe. We broadened the range of our activities to better address contemporary challenges like organized crime, migration and intolerance."
Focusing on the OSCE's activities in 2006, Ambassador de Brichambaut added that the strengthening of the Organization's effectiveness was one of its main challenges.
"The OSCE is a community of values. Evolving challenges require a constant reminder of core principles, a review of the implementation of commitments and open dialogue. ... The OSCE is well-positioned to tackle some of the major challenges of our time. We need to contribute to the exchange of ideas on these crucial issues in order to strengthen security and co-operation in the OSCE area," he said.
The Annual Report can be viewed at www.osce.org. Print copies can be ordered from info@osce.org.
