About

The purpose of this conference is to examine and discuss the implementation of OSCE participating States’ commitments on the right to freedom of opinion and expression and media freedom as an integral part of the OSCE concept of comprehensive security. The conference will also provide an opportunity to highlight best practice and address joint challenges regarding media freedom in the OSCE region.

The conference will be opened by the Chairperson-in Office, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Ann Linde and the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Teresa Ribeiro.

In four sessions, the following topics will be covered:

  • Facilitating a safe media environment through national strategies,experiences and action plans;
  • A pluralistic media environment;
  • Transparency of Public Authorities;
  • The role of the media in the democratic process, including elections
