OSCE Office presents books on purchase law and property rights

BAKU, 20 June 2007 - The OSCE Office in Baku launched two books targeting Azerbaijani legal practitioners and students today. The books, entitled "A Commentary on Purchase Law" and "European Case Law: The Right to Property", were written by national legal experts, including a Supreme Court judge and civil law lawyers. They are the first books of their kind to be published in the Azerbaijani language.
"We hope that these publications will contribute to a greater awareness of legislation among students and legal practitioners," said Ambassador Jose-Luis Herrero, Head of the OSCE Office in Baku.
"The OSCE Office in Baku is committed to supporting Azerbaijan in its effort to develop a strong and competent judiciary."
The book on purchase law aims to spark discussions among civil law practitioners and law professors about civil code provisions, with the intention to encourage a more consistent application of the law. The review of European case law informs judges and lawyers about international standards on safeguards for the protection of property rights. The overall goal is to enhance the quality of legal argumentation and legal judgments in the courts.
Representatives of the media community, judges, legal practitioners and students attended the book presentation.
