BAKU, 20 June 2006 - The OSCE Office in Baku has held a training session on media management for about 20 journalists, editors-in-chief and owners of different regional media outlets in Azerbaijan.

The three-day event last week familiarized regional media professionals with concepts of good media management. It also showed them ways to make their enterprises more profitable.

The training course covered topics such as audience study, editorial management, business-planning, personnel management, advertisement management, distribution management and marketing.

"Regional print media professionals need skills that can help improve their publications' marketability," said Ambassador Maurizio Pavesi, Head of the OSCE Office in Baku. "We hope that training sessions such as this one will help the regional media become more efficient and financially sustainable."

The course, taught by a Ukrainian media consultant and a local trainer, featured lectures and interactive group activities. Participants discussed obstacles facing the independent media in the regions of Azerbaijan and strategies to address them.
