CHERNIHIV, Ukraine, 13 August 2010 - A youth summer camp on the rights and responsibilities of citizens in a society governed by the rule of law, supported by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine concludes in the Chernihiv region tomorrow.
The two-week camp, co-organized with the country's Family, Youth and Sports Ministry and the Youth Association, gathered 40 young Ukrainians from across the country, including disadvantaged young people from low-income families and orphans.
"The OSCE Project Co-ordinator attaches great importance to human rights education in Ukraine. Raising the awareness of Ukrainian young people is critical to building a strong and accountable state governed by the rule of law," said Ambassador Lubomir Kopaj, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine.
The participants discussed the importance of making informed choices about education and career, the role of active citizens in creating a stable society based on the rule of law, and understanding the rights and responsibilities of citizens of all ages.
The OSCE Project Co-ordinator supported the camp as part of its project on "Raising Public Awareness on Human Rights and Human Rights Protection Mechanisms", which aims to strengthen confidence in human rights protection mechanisms in Ukraine.
