Trial Monitoring Training

Within the framework of the project “Safeguarding Human Rights through Courts, Phase II”, the OSCE Support Programme for Ukraine, in cooperation with the National School of Judges of Ukraine and NGONGO
non-governmental organization “Human Rights Vector” announces a call for applications for a trial monitoring training to be held in Kyiv on 4-6 June 2025.

Trial monitoring by civil society representatives can help identify systemic shortcomings that affect how well the judiciary protects human rights. To enhance the skills and knowledge of non-governmental sector activists in this field, the OSCE Support Programme for Ukraine, National School of Judges of Ukraine and NGO “Human Rights Vector” will conduct a training on the development and implementation of trial monitoring in accordance with international standards. The training is based on a methodology developed by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), adapted to national conditions by Ukrainian experts.

The three-day course will take place offline in Kyiv and will include theoretical learning, practical exercises and research, as well as a visit to court. Participants will engage in an interactive format to familiarize themselves with international monitoring standards, the content and tools for ensuring the right to a fair trial, the specifics of the judiciary in Ukraine, and the monitoring of court proceedings in the country.

As a result of the training, participants will acquire a set of skills that will enable them to:

1. Define tasks and prepare a methodology for monitoring courts;
2. Plan a monitoring program;
3. Apply court monitoring tools.

Conditions of participation

Participants wishing to join the training need to take part in the competitive selection by filling out the form by 23:59 on 18 May 2025. Please note that applications submitted past the deadline will not be considered. The OSCE covers all travel, accommodation and food expenses of the participants, and more information on the conditions will be provided to the selected candidates.
