ZAGREB, 17 December 2003 - The OSCE Mission to Croatia has expressed its concerns today over Monday night's shooting of one of the co-owners of Croatia's first commercial TV station, NOVA TV.

The shots fired at NOVA TV co-owner, Ivan Caleta, resulted in serious leg injuries.

The OSCE Mission believes that any such threats to media professionals, publishers and journalists have a chilling effect on the work of journalists, especially those involved in investigative work and reporting on corruption.

OSCE Mission Spokesperson, Alessandro Fracassetti, said today: "The OSCE Mission expects a swift and thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice and inform the public of the outcome."

Earlier this year, a car belonging to the prominent Croatian publisher, Ninoslav Pavic, owner of the media house Europapress Holding (EPH), was bombed.

A journalist and an editor of an EPH weekly magazine were also attacked last month.
