OSCE holds training seminar for new anti-trafficking hotline consultants

KYIV, 13 December 2002 - Today and tomorrow, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine and the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) are holding a two-day training seminar for consultants working for hotlines aimed at preventing the trafficking of human beings.

The seminar, which is being moderated by trainers of the non-governmental organization La Strada, will provide a total of 30 new hotline consultants and volunteers from throughout Ukraine with psychological training and necessary information and material for their daily work. Besides consultants of the recently established national toll-free hotline, the seminar participants also include representatives of regional hotlines that work on the prevention of human trafficking and domestic violence

This event is the third of its kind in 2002. The previous two training seminars focused on issues such as visa matters, residence and work permits, au-pair systems and other matters related to so-called destination countries.

For these seminars, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine has invited speakers from different consulates in Ukraine. All relevant material that was gathered for the training were disseminated to regional NGOs dealing with the prevention of trafficking in human beings in Ukraine, Moldova, and Belarus.
