OSCE Office in Yerevan presents special prize to an environmental journalist

YEREVAN, 22 July 2002 - Arevhat Grigorian, a journalist working for the Armenian electronic weekly, Hetq, has been awarded the OSCE Office in Yerevan's annual prize for the best Armenian writer on environmental issues.

Ms. Grigoryan has produced a noteworthy series of investigative environmental articles for Hetq. She was awarded the prize - a personal computer and a printer - by Roy Reeve, Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, at a special ceremony organized by the Yerevan Press Club on the occasion of its seventh anniversary.

The Press Club has been organizing annual awards for the best journalists and media organizations in Armenia since 1998. A special jury consisting of key figures in the media field selects and announces the winners. A number of international organizations and diplomatic missions regularly contribute to the event by providing special prizes. This year, ten media organizations and representatives were given awards in various categories.

This is the second year the OSCE Office has awarded a special prize to one of the winners of the Yerevan Press Club Annual Award. In 2001, the prize went to Alexey Manvelyan, correspondent for BBC World Service, in recognition of his efforts to build information bridges.
