OSCE Minsk Office organizes film programme to mark Human Rights Day

MINSK, 10 December 2008 - A week-long film programme "Dignity, Equality, Justness", organized by the OSCE Office, ends in Minsk today.

It marked the International Human Rights Day and the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and also featured a photo exhibition showing life and human sorrow in conflict areas.

The programme included such feature films as "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", "Who Never Lived", "The Wall", and documentaries.

"Human rights are a vital component of the OSCE human dimension of security. Our Office in Minsk is involved in many projects and activities that aim at strengthening peace, security and human dignity," said Ambassador Hans-Jochen Schmidt, the Head of the OSCE Office.

"The Universal Declaration of Human Rights embodied the due recognition of global responsibility for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and lead to the acknowledgement that human rights violations are no longer merely internal concerns of sovereign States."

The film programme was organized together with the UN and UNHCR offices in Belarus.

This was the second time the OSCE Office in Minsk and the UN agencies initiated such a film programme.
