OSCE Permanent Council approves 2018 budget for the Organization

VIENNA, 15 February 2018 - The OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna today approved the Organization’s budget for 2018.

“The approval today of the OSCE Unified Budget for 2018 is an important achievement, guaranteeing the efficacy of our Organization,” said OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Italy’s Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano following the decision of the OSCE Permanent Council.

“This outcome was intensely pursued by the Italian Chairmanship, which has patiently built consensus among the OSCE participating States, bringing together diverging positions,” Minister Alfano said thanking all the OSCE participating States for demonstrating “responsibility and openness to dialogue”.

OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Alfano noted that the approval of the budget enables the OSCE to continue its activities aimed at providing concrete solutions to the challenges threatening security in the OSCE region.

According to the decision, the OSCE’s Unified Budget for the period from 1 January to 31 December 2018 is €137,801,200. This does not include funding for the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine. Last year’s budget was €138,982,600.

The OSCE Permanent Council is one of the main regular decision-making bodies of the Organization, comprising representatives of all 57 OSCE participating States. Decisions are made on the basis of consensus. 

The OSCE, the world’s largest regional security organization, is funded by contributions from its 57 participating States.
