- 1993-96: Director General of Foreign Policy for Africa and the Middle East at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA)
- 1991-93: Director General of the Institute for Co-operation with the Arab World, Madrid
- 1987-91: Deputy Director General for Northern Africa in the Spanish MFA
- 1984-87: Counsellor at the Spanish Embassy in Morocco
