On 28th June 2016, the 67th meeting under the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) took place in Ergneti, co-facilitated by Kęstutis Jankauskas, the Head of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM) and Ambassador Guenther Baechler, the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus.
It was noted that the security situation along the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) was relatively stable, but not free from challenges. Some of them, in particular crossings of the ABL and detentions, were extensively discussed.
Participants agreed that, if not addressed in a timely manner, some of the challenges might have developed into sources of tension. In this context, the EUMM’s facilitating role was recognized.
It was acknowledged that the Hotline has proven itself as an effective instrument of communication. On several issues, participants agreed to provide information in the coming days, using the Hotline.
Ambassador Guenther Baechler informed participants about plans for further work on cases of missing persons by the OSCE-commissioned independent expert Mr. Dušan Ignjatović.
The next IPRM meeting will take place on 19th July 2016.
