Slovenia’s joined the OSCE in 1992 following its independence from Yugoslavia, an original signatory of the 1975 Helsinki Final Act. Slovenia held the Chairpersonship in 2005. It is represented by a delegation to the OSCE and OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

Every year, the political leadership of the OSCE rotates among the Organization's participating States. The country taking over the OSCE Chair co-ordinates activities and provides political direction throughout that year.
