On 20 July 2013, some 20 government and civil society representatives took part in a seminar in Nakhchivan, an autonomous republic in Azerbaijan, on the country’s legislation regulating the prevention of domestic violence. The event was led by a national expert, Mehriban Zeynalova from the public association, “Clean World.”

“Preventing and combating domestic violence is an important element of the OSCE’s work on equality and the respect for human rights. We are ready to support the efforts of government and civil society to address this important issue,” said Nicholas Detsch, the Head of the OSCE Office in Baku’s Democratization Unit at the event.

The participants received information at the seminar about social services for the victims of domestic violence living in shelters,  analyzed case studies, and discussed how to further improve preventive measures.

The event is part of a larger project by the OSCE Office to support the implementation of the domestic violence prevention law in the country.
