OSCE hosts workshop for South-Eastern Europe on computer forensics and digital evidence

The OSCE Strategic Police Matters Unit is hosting a regional workshop in Belgrade on computer forensics and digital evidence. The workshop on 2 and 3 June aims to give police supervisors, appellate-level prosecutors and judges an introduction to computer crimes, computer forensics and cyber evidence.

It will bring together 25 regional criminal justice experts from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

Cybercrime investigation experts from Serbia’s Ministries of Interior and Justice, the Prosecutors Association of Serbia and the Cybercrime Research Institute in Cologne, Germany, will lead the course.

“The workshop will give police supervisors, appellate-level prosecutors and judges an overview of computer crimes, computer forensics and cyber evidence,” said OSCE Senior Police Adviser Knut Dreyer. “I am especially happy that it targets police managers of cybercrime investigations as well as prosecutors responsible for handling appeals of electronic evidence and judges whose proceedings involve cyber evidence and internet crimes. Only by providing all parts of the criminal justice system access to crucial knowledge and skills can we effectively combat cybercrime.”

The Norwegian government financed the workshop, which is implemented with the co-operation of the OSCE Mission to Serbia’s Rule of Law Unit. The workshop follows an OSCE-organized cybercrime course for Serbian police held last November in Belgrade.
