OSCE Project Co-ordinator holds seminar on the future of the military judiciary and law enforcement bodies in Ukraine

KYIV, 21 June 2000 - From 20 to 21 June 2000 the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine held a seminar on the future of the Military Judiciary and law enforcement bodies in Ukraine, in the framework of its focus on military reform.

The main partners in the seminar were the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Branch of the International Society for Human Rights, the Supreme Court and the Prosecutor Generals Office.

The participants discussed the protection of Constitutional Rights of military servicemen by judicial bodies, the future orientation of military courts and the military prosecutor, as well as the planned establishment of a military police.

The Judge Advocate General of the British Army, Mr. James Rant, the Swiss Army Attorney General, Mr. Dieter Weber, and Mr. Eugene Sullivan, Associate Judge of the US Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces attended in the quality of experts to provide Ukrainian participants a model on how justice related to the military works in their respective countries.
