The Handbook consolidates key aspects of social detention facilities monitoring in the framework of the national preventive mechanism (NPM) in Ukraine. It describes specific features of private social care institutions, psychiatric hospitals, orphanages and geriatric boarding centres of social and psychological rehabilitation for children. The Handbook provides recommendations on how to conduct interviews with different groups of clients, describes the types of documents that shall be examined, and outlines with with principles a monitor must comply. The publication will be useful for NPM monitors, social detention facilities staff, civic activists and all those interested in the problems of ill-treatment prevention in closed institutions in Ukraine. This publication is a result of scientific and methodological work on the standardized course for judges “Application of the European Convention on Human Rights and the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights”. It includes materials prepared by the working group on course development within the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine’s "Safeguarding Human Rights through Courts" Project. The course is developed in the format of interactive training with due regard to the best international practices in judicial education. This is one of the courses developed and institutionalized in cooperation with the National School of Judges of Ukraine, the Supreme Court of Ukraine and the High Administrative Court of Ukraine within the Project "Safeguarding Human Rights through Courts", implemented by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine with the financial support of the Government of Canada. A handbook on criminal procedure, written in co-authorship by Professor Leonid Loboyko and Oleksandr Banchuk, Ph.D., developed and published with the support of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine. The handbook covers main issues of criminal procedure. Considerable attention is given to European standards of human rights protection in criminal procedure. Available in Ukrainian only.

A handbook on criminal law, written in co-authorship by Professor Oleksandr Dudorov and Professor Mykola Khavroniuk (under the general editorship of Professor Mykola Khavroniuk), developed and published with the support of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine. The handbook covers main issues of the general and specific parts of the criminal law of Ukraine. It also discusses international and European criminal law, as well as criminal law of foreign countries. Available in Ukrainian only.
