The Mission supports BiH in efforts aimed at improving and harmonizing laws and practices with international human rights standards in the fields of freedom of peaceful assembly and association, freedom of expression/media, and freedom of religion or belief.

The target audience for this tool includes personnel responsible for SSR in security sector institutions, national government and parliament, international/regional organisations and donors, and civil society organisations. It is also designed for the staff of these organisations that are responsible for gender mainstreaming in the security sector.

With dozens of OSCE SMM patrols going out every day all across Ukraine, many in high-risk areas in the east, On Patrol offers a remarkable insight not only into the work of the biggest OSCE mission on the ground – and the men and women who serve it and the wider cause of peace – but also into some of the people and issues that define Ukraine and the crisis it endures.

This publication provides an overview of the history and development of OSCE election monitoring. It looks at the reasons for observing elections, who observers are, where they come from, and how an election observation mission works in practice.

ODIHR has developed this guide in response to calls from participating States to give them guidance and practical tools to help them create an environment that enables fruitful dialogue and joint action across religious and belief boundaries.

It reflects the empirical findings on the situation of children and children’s rights within the juvenile justice system and provides information about gaps in the functioning of those institutions.

It is increasingly recognized by international experts that monitoring places of detention through regular and unannounced visits constitutes one of the most effective ways to prevent torture and ill-treatment of persons deprived of their liberty. Accordingly, the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT) and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) decided to promote monitoring programmes by national NGOs and to publish this guide.
