More than 50 school children from all over Ukraine were trained on human rights principles, from 19 to 20 November 2015 in Odesa, during the events organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine and the Office of the Parliament’s Commissioner for Human Rights.

Two intensive training courses were targeted at school students from all regions of Ukraine, including Donetsk and Lugansk regions, and were aimed at raising their awareness of fundamental human rights and rights of the child, and mechanisms to protect them. The issues such as domestic violence, security and conflict prevention were also discussed. The events were dedicated to the anniversary of the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The training methodology was based on interactive techniques and included discussions, case studies, various exercises and screenings of short films on human rights. Case studies from the handbook on human rights for children, developed by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, were also presented.

The training courses were held as part of a project aimed at improving legal education and promoting human rights education in Ukraine, implemented upon the request of the Education and Science Ministry, Justice Ministry, the Office of the Parliament’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and the National University of Kyiv Mohyla Academy.
