OSCE donates equipment to Tajik Border Troops
On 8 May 2024, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe (the Office) donated equipment to Tajikistan’s Border Troops in Dushanbe. The Office’s Patrol Field Capacity Building project – Phase II (PFCB2) funded by France, the United States, and Germany, donated two rigid inflatable boats with waterjet motors for patrolling the Panj River; 160 handheld VHF radios to enhance communication on the Tajik-Afghan border, and 87 Garmin GPS navigation units to improve vehicle patrolling along the border with Afghanistan.
The Office’s Border Management Unit donated 45 laptop computers and nine printers to the border outposts and the training centres to enhance the technical capacity of the border troops. The OSCE Programme Office also donated one armoured Toyota Land Cruiser for safer operations in high-security situations.
The donation ceremony was represented by Major-General Rajabzoda Murodali Rajab, First Deputy Commander of the Border Troops and Jukka Tuononen, Officer-in-Charge of the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe.
The year 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Tajikistan’s Border Troops and the 15th year of the OSCE conducting capacity-building projects with the Tajik Border Troops.
