OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek
Economic activities
With Kyrgyzstan operating largely on a “cash economy” and receiving a significant amount of its income as remittances from abroad, the potential for corruption and a decline in investment is high. To counter this threat, the Office works to simplify the regulatory system through the “Regulatory Guillotine” mechanism. This project aims to revamp the business sector by tackling corruption, removing unnecessary regulatory barriers and clarifying legal ambiguities. To foster international trade, the Office works to improve the validity of customs search procedures by enhancing the host country’s use of advanced scanning equipment. The Office also works with Kyrgyzstan’s State Customs to better address regional challenges and to enhance the skills of customs officers from Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan.
