OSCE resumes series of seminars on human rights protection in Kazakhstan
The first in a series of four training seminars on human rights protection mechanisms for representatives of local administrations, law-enforcement bodies and civil society concluded on 27 April 2018 in the village of Kazakhstan, in the South Kazakhstan region.
During the four-day event, some 290 participants from the cities of Lenger, Shymkent, Turkestan, and the village itself were familiarized with new developments in labour legislation that have major implications for employees. They also learned about the promotion of gender equality and prevention of domestic violence. Particular attention was paid to Kazakhstan’s international human rights commitments and the role of national and international human rights institutions in the protection of human rights and freedoms. OSCE-supported experts led interactive question-and-answer sessions.
The seminar was organized by the Human Rights Commission under the President of Kazakhstan and the OSCE Programme Office in Astana in co-operation with the South Kazakhstan regional administration.
It is a follow-up to a similar series that the Programme Office co-organized with the Human Rights Commission in the country from 2015 to 2017.
The event is part of the Office’s long-term efforts to support national human rights institutions in promoting fundamental freedoms and international human rights in Kazakhstan.
