OSCE supports roundtable on promoting women’s empowerment in Kazakhstan
An OSCE-supported roundtable discussion on the economic empowerment and political participation of women took place on 28 November 2017 in Astana.
The event, co-organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana in partnership with the Union of Women Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan, brought together some 60 participants, including female entrepreneurs and representatives from the parliament, the Akmola and Karaganda regions’ local administrations and different non-governmental organizations. Participants discussed the main challenges in the area of women’s political participation and economic empowerment. The roundtable discussion was followed by a training seminar aimed at improving the competitiveness of women in view of the on-going national initiative Third Modernisation of Kazakhstan: Global Competitiveness.
The Third Modernisation programme is a presidential initiative aimed at creating a new model of economic growth to ensure Kazakhstan’s competitiveness in the global marketplace and transforming the state into a top 30 economy by 2050.
The event is part of the Office’s long-standing efforts to promote gender mainstreaming and economic empowerment initiatives throughout the country.
