OSCE supports roundtable discussion on improving water education in Kazakhstan
Some 40 representatives of Kazakhstan’s water management authorities and academic institutions discussed introducing a specialized curriculum on water management during an OSCE-supported roundtable on 26 October 2017 in Taraz, Kazakhstan.
Sharing their experiences and opinions, the participants discussed educational standards and teaching methods currently used in various disciplines related to water management and identified specific recommendations to improve the quality of academic education in this field.
There was special attention on the use of innovative teaching technologies as well as the need to include topics such as soil reclamation, the rational use of water resources, water engineering and the safety of water facilities in the curricula.
The event was organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana in partnership with the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS). It is part of the Office’s long-standing efforts to promote integrated water resources management and to support the political commitments of the host country in water governance reforms.
