OSCE co-organizes workshop on green construction standards in Kazakhstan
An OSCE-supported workshop on the OSCE best practices in applying green construction standards and technologies to produce environmentally friendly buildings and sustainable cities started on 21 September 2017 in Astana.
Some 50 participants from the Energy Ministry and its supporting departments in the regions and representatives of business and non-governmental organizations attended the workshop. The event aimed to facilitate an exchange of views and best practices related to the harmonization of national legislation and infrastructure improvement in the sector of “green” buildings and construction.
"Today's event is an opportunity to get acquainted with international experience and develop constructive solutions in utilizing renewable energy in Kazakhstan’s green building sector. We hope that today's event will help identify the best methods of using the sources of “energy of the future" for the development of the construction industry and support of environmental protection," said Gani Sadibekov, Vice Minister of Energy.
“Kazakhstan has taken the challenge of making the transition to a green economy quite seriously by undertaking initiatives such as Expo-2017 – ‘Future Energy’ – and announcing its plans to launch an International Centre for Green Technologies Transfer in Astana,” said Ambassador György Szabó, Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana. “In accordance with these priorities, the OSCE Programme Office in Astana is delighted to assist with these reforms and offer its expertise on best practices in the ‘green’ construction sector.”
The event was co-organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana in close partnership with the Energy Ministry, the Office of the OSCE Coordinator for Economic and Environmental Affairs (OCEEA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kazakhstan.
It is part of the Office’s long-term effort to promote the “green” economy and sustainable development principles in strengthening environmental security.
