OSCE concludes roundtable discussion series on organic farming in Kazakhstan
The last in a series of three OSCE-supported regional roundtable discussions on promoting green technologies with a focus on organic agriculture concluded on 8 August 2017 in Taldykorgan, Kazakhstan.
The event was co-organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana and the Coalition for Green Economy and G-Global Development for some 70 representatives of the Almaty Region’s Agricultural Department, the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs Atameken, local farmers and representatives of the agribusiness community.
Participants learned about national and international best practices in certification for organic production and discussed the government’s role in developing incentives for effective organic farming and for agribusiness in general. Participants also reviewed the challenges associated with the production of organic produce, the state agricultural finance programmes and the application of renewable energy sources during production.
The event aims to promote the use of organic agriculture and raise farmers’ awareness of the latest relevant technologies. It is part of the Programme Office’s long-standing efforts to promote sustainable development principles in Kazakhstan.
