OSCE supports regional summer school for young environmental leaders in Kazakhstan
Some 35 students from the five Central Asian countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan will attend an OSCE-supported annual summer school in Almaty from 5 June to 16 June 2017 on methods and tools for assessing and monitoring water and land resources in the Central Asian region.
The two-week summer school was organized by the Office in close partnership with the German-Kazakh University and the Central Asian Water Regional Research Network for the fourth consecutive year.
The course combines academic lectures with practical exercises in Almaty and a site trip to the Expo-2017 exhibition in Astana, where the participants will be familiarized with the latest green technologies and approaches in the water management sector.
During the opening session in Almaty, an OSCE representative delivered an introductory lecture and seminar on water security and the OSCE’s role in this regard.
This activity is in line with Kazakhstan’s strategy on the transition to a “green” economy, which includes promoting an enhanced national water governance framework. It aims to promote the development of competitive skilled human capital for the green economy market.
