Kazakhstan Parliamentarians attend international seminar on water facilities safety in Saint Petersburg, with OSCE support
The OSCE Programme Office in Astana facilitated the participation of two members of Kazakhstan’s Parliament at an international seminar on water facilities safety in Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation, on 26 and 27 April 2017.
The event aimed to familiarize some 30 legislators and policy experts from the Russian Federation and Central Asian states with the legislative aspects of public oversight of water facilities.
Participants discussed challenges and emergency risks in operating water facilities. They also visited a dam in the city of Kronstadt where they were briefed about the administration of the water facility.
The seminar was organized by the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea Executive Directorate in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service (Rostechnadzor).
The event is part of the Office’s activities aimed at reducing the risks of natural and manmade disasters as well as promoting transboundary water co-operation.
