Restoring dialogue in Georgia, border management and gender and comprehensive security focus of OSCE Magazine
VIENNA, 25 June 2009 - The latest OSCE Magazine, now available online and in print, highlights some of the complex areas in which the Greek Chairmanship has been engaged over the past half a year, including efforts to restore dialogue in Georgia through the Geneva discussions.
Ahead of the informal meeting of OSCE foreign ministers in Corfu, the Chairperson-in-Office, Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis expresses her hope that this mid-year event will set the stage for the launching of the "Corfu Process" - a "reinvigorated, open-ended and inclusive dialogue on how best to tackle some of the most challenging security issues of our time."
In an interview, Ambassador Charalampos Christopoulos, Special Representative of the Chairperson-in-Office for Protracted Conflicts, describes the achievements and setbacks of the Geneva discussions concerning Georgia since their launch in October last year.
Another article focuses on the new Border Management Staff College, hosted by Tajikistan, which seeks to become a centre of excellence and a platform for sharing information and experience within Central Asia and beyond.
This issue devotes a special section to the role of gender in comprehensive security, another priority of the Greek Chairmanship. Several first-person accounts from outside contributors show how the OSCE and its partners are enhancing each other's work in gender mainstreaming, whether the focus is on-the-ground monitoring of tense regions or fighting domestic violence.
Published in English and Russian, with online editions in French and German, the OSCE Magazine can be found on the OSCE website:
