Ambassador Marcel Peško
Over many years in the multilateral diplomacy and the national foreign service, Ambassador Marcel Peško has focused primarily on issues of security, conflict prevention, disarmament, and the confidence-building agenda, as well as on hybrid threats and cybersecurity. Before his appointment as the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, he served as the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office/Project Coordinator in Ukraine.
In 2020, Ambassador Peško was appointed as the first-ever Ambassador-at-Large of the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in charge of countering hybrid threats, a portfolio that also included cyber threats and digital policy issues. That same year, he re-joined the Slovak diplomatic service after several years in senior positions within the OSCE, where he served as Director of the Conflict Prevention Center and Deputy Head of the Secretariat since 2015, and earlier as Director of the Office of the Secretary General from 2012. Before assuming his international assignments, he held the post of Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the International Organizations and the OSCE in Vienna. As a career diplomat, Ambassador Peško also held various senior positions in the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, including Secretary General of the Ministry, Chief of the Minister’s Office, Director of the UN Department, and Head of the UN Security Council Coordination Unit during Slovakia's non-permanent membership in the Council in 2006 - 2007. His engagement with multilateral diplomacy began early in his career with his first foreign assignment to the Slovak Permanent Mission to the CSCE in the early 1990s. He later served as Chargé d’affaires at the Slovak Embassy in Dublin. From 2003 to 2005, he worked as Executive Officer in the Office of the OSCE Secretary General.
Ambassador Peško also brings valuable private-sector experience, having served as business development director for several international and Slovak companies operating mainly in the IT, cybersecurity, and payment processing sectors.
