OSCE Mission to Montenegro
Media freedom and development
The Mission provides expert support to the relevant authorities - such as Montenegro’s public broadcasting service Radio i Televizija Crne Gore, the Agency for Electronic Media and the Agency for Protection of Personal Data and Free Access to Information, with the aim to strengthen the media legal framework. It also organizes specialized training courses and runs advocacy initiatives that aim to assist the institutions on becoming effective and fully functioning in line with OSCE commitments and principles.
The Mission’s work in this area focuses on five priority areas:
- Enhancing public awareness of the role of the media
- Creating a safer environment for journalists
- Improving the capabilities of media professionals, particularly in terms of journalistic ethics and professional reporting
- Introducing a media literacy programme into the journalism studies’ curriculum at the University of Montenegro
- Facilitating the exchange of best practice and networking between journalists and professional media associations in the South Eastern Europe region.
