OSCE Mission acting head condemns violent incident in Prishtine/Pristina and calls for swift investigation
PRISHTINE/PRISTINA, 15 December 2012 – Acting Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Elaine Conkievich, today condemned last night’s violent incident that forced cancellation of the presentation of Kosovo 2.0 magazine.
A group of people gathered in front of the entrance to the Youth and Sports Center in Prishtine/Pristina preventing people from coming to the presentation. Later on the group entered the premises and demolished the stage and equipment.
“I strongly condemn last night’s incident that led to the cancellation of the presentation of the new issue of the Kosovo 2.0 magazine,” said Conkievich.
“This is an attack on freedom of expression, a basic human right, as well as an attempt to limit freedom of the media. I call on the law enforcement agencies to conduct a swift investigation, identify perpetrators and prevent violations of human rights and attacks on media freedom.”
The OSCE Mission in Kosovo is mandated with human and community rights protection and promotion, democratization and public safety sector development.
