What doctors can do to prevent trafficking and domestic violence, assist victims, in focus of OSCE workshop in Kosovo
A series of six training workshops organized by the OSCE Mission and Ministry of Health for 180 doctors in Kosovo on how to identify and treat victims of trafficking and domestic violence concluded in Prishtinë/Priština on 16 May 2013.
“This is the first time that doctors in Kosovo have been provided with the training on how to identify, assist and report potential victims of domestic violence and human trafficking to the police, victim advocates, social workers and shelter providers,” said Hjortur Sverrison, Human Right and Communities Department Director at the OSCE Mission.
“Doctors are often the first ones to get in touch with victims; they have a crucial role in making sure that the victims get all the necessary medical assistance, as well as the protection of law enforcement agencies. It is essential to ensure that doctor know the new victim assistance procedures and follow them, and today’s course is aimed at facilitating this.”
