OSCE donates minivans to Kyrgyzstan’s Interior Ministry
BISHKEK, 28 October 2011 – Today the OSCE Centre in Bishkek presented to the Kyrgyz Interior Ministry Internal Troops two minivans to strengthen the operational security at Kambar-Ata 2 hydro-power station in the southern Kyrgyzstan.
After signing the donation agreement, Ambassador Andrew Tesoriere, the Head of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek, said: “We hope that today’s donation, together with the previously provided training for the Internal Troops responsible for the infrastructure protection, will strengthen the Interior Ministry’s capacity to protect and safeguard the hydro-power station as an important asset which has a potential to generate clean electricity for Kyrgyzstan and for wider regional consumption.”
General Sovet Arbaev, Commander of the Interior Troops of the Interior Ministry of Kyrgyzstan, said: “I am convinced that the technical and training support provided by the OSCE, are remarkable steps towards increased efficiency of our personnel’s activities in ensuring security of the Kambar-Ata 2 hydro-power plant, an important part of Kyrgyzstan’s energy infrastructure.”
The vehicles were provided by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek under a project on the protection of the critical energy infrastructure. Earlier this year, the OSCE also provided video surveillance equipment for the Internal Troops, aimed at enhancing security of the Kambar –Ata 2 hydro-power station.
