BAKU, 6 October 2011 – A two-day OSCE-supported conference on tackling cybercrime opened in Baku today.
The conference is organized by the OSCE Office in Baku in co-ordination with the OSCE Secretariat’s Action against Terrorism and Strategic Police Matters Units, as well as the Council of Europe and the Government of Azerbaijan. It brings together representatives from relevant state agencies and internet providers in Azerbaijan, international experts, and representatives of international organizations and embassies.
“The purpose of this conference is to raise awareness about issues and possible solutions related to cybercrime as part of a comprehensive approach to cyber security,” said Ambassador Koray Targay, the Head of the OSCE Office in Baku, at the event.
“We all recognize the growing importance of dealing with the issues surrounding a secure Internet, and the need to involve the public as well as governments and industry in combating cybercrime in order to enhance global cyber security.”
The conference provides an opportunity to address the challenges of international co-operation in cybercrime investigations, such as in the area of Internet fraud.
The participants of the conference will discuss the legal framework used to prosecute cybercrime cases, and international conventions, standards and best practices on criminal and procedural laws, as well as relevant human rights considerations.
The agenda also includes the latest methodologies and technical means used for investigating and prosecuting cybercrime cases, and participants will discuss the importance of public-private partnerships.
