OSCE Centre supports publication of report on human rights in Kazakhstan
On 19 September 2012, Ambassador Natalia Zarudna, the Head of the OSCE Centre in Astana, spoke at a presentation of the 2011 Annual Human Rights Situation Report translated and published with the support from the Centre.
The 2011 Annual Human Rights Situation Report prepared by Kazakhstan’s National Human Rights Commission under the President highlights key human rights issues and provides recommendations to state bodies and civil society.
Addressing the participants, Zarudna welcomed the involvement of civil society organizations in the preparation of the report and pointed out the importance of broadly disseminating human rights information to ensure citizens’ awareness of their rights and obligations.
The event opened by Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazyhanov brought together representatives of key national human rights protection bodies, civil society and the diplomatic corps.
Later this year the OSCE Centre in co-operation with the National Human Rights Commission plans to organize public hearings to present the report in the country’s regions.
