OSCE Centre in Astana promotes eco-innovation for sustainable development
A one-day international conference on environment, innovation and sustainable development was held in Almaty on 30 March 2012.
Speaking at the conference, Jeannette Kloetzer, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Centre in Astana, emphasized the importance of eco-innovations that can contribute to “a more sustainable balance between consumption and production and thus help countries achieve sustainable development goals”.
The event was organized by the Kazakh-German University and the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies and aimed to provide input for Kazakhstan’s national strategy in its transition to a green economy in the light of the forthcoming UN Conference on Sustainable Development Rio+20.
More than 60 participants from government ministries, civil society, non-governmental organizations, academia and international organizations took part.
The OSCE Centre is a close partner of the Ministry of Environment in the “greening” of Kazakhstan’s economy and in protecting the Caspian Sea, establishing Aarhus Centres in the country, addressing key climate change issues for Central Asia and developing the Green Bridge Initiative. The Green Bridge Partnership Programme, will be presented at the UN World Conference on Sustainable Development “Rio + 20” in Brazil this summer.
